I am saving up for a new programming rig.
To be specific: an iMac (21" should do it, I think)
My old rig is 8 years old and really doesn't cut it anymore..
Since I only get 10-15 Frames Per Second using the new Ogre3D terrain component, I can't really use it for graphics programming. And my average compile times are well over 10 minutes..
So I mostly do web programming these days.
An iMac would allow me not only to get back into the graphics programming saddle - and actually tend to my projects - but also allow me to offer support for the Mac for Ogitor and Ogre3D. That would definitely benefit the communities of both projects.
Edit:
Due to the low dollar, and the high taxes in Denmark, it would cost more than $1,200 to acquire the cheapest iMac ($1,600 is more like it), and thus I've decided to aim for a mid-range graphics programmer PC instead. That would put the amount - $1,200 - at the ceiling instead of at the bottom. Once things kicks off freelancer-wise, I can probably afford a Mac when that time comes.
I am between jobs, and starting out as a freelancer, so money is extremely scarce.
So if you are in a generous mood, feel free to donate. Any amount will do.
The money will be used to acquire an iMac / a PC - I am not going to spend it on beers or 3D games. Take my word for it.
What you get in return is a warm fuzzy feeling and increased activity from me with regards to the open source projects I am involved with.
A big thanks to those who already donated - I love you guys!
